Ombudsman Services is a multi-sector organisation that provides dispute resolution services for sectors including communications, energy and copyright licensing sectors.
The organisation says it will work with charities, consumer groups, property professionals and the public on a report that looks at the creation of a single housing ombudsman.
Ombudsman Services chief ombudsman Lewis Shand Smith says that the housing sector currently suffers from a “really confusing picture” when it comes to getting redress, due to a “patchwork” of schemes which are difficult for ordinary people to navigate.
Communities Secretary Sajid Javid said: “For too long, tenants and homeowners have navigated multiple complaints procedures to resolve disputes about everyday household repairs and maintenance.”
Ombudsman Services want to develop a model that works for everyone.
Those in dispute about mortgages or other financial services will continue to be able to escalate complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
